My Vines

The Hilton Estate - First Harvest September 2011
The Dry Run Estate Vineyard consists of 15 vines of Corot Noir, half planted in April 2009, and the balance planted in May 2012.  Six of the original vines are located in the backyard of my sister's house in Westminster, MD, about 40 minutes northwest of Baltimore (the Hilton Estate).  The rest are planted in the city garden of my home in Baltimore (the Goldberg Estate).  Once the most recently planted vines reach full maturity in 2015 or 2016, the estate vineyard is expected to yield an annual production of one to two cases per year.

The Goldberg Estate - First Harvest September 2012
Corot Noir is a hybrid grape variety developed and released by Cornell University in 2006.  The varietal was choosen as ideal for this climate due to its winter heartiness and good disease resistance when compared to other hybrid options or well known vinifera varietals. While new to me, the variety is proported to be free of the hybrid aromas typical of many other red hybrid grapes, and can be used for varietal wine production or for blending. The distinctive red wine has a deep red color and attractive berry and cherry fruit aromas.  Its tannin structure is complete from the front of the mouth to the back, with big soft tannins.
